Matt and I bought our ranchalow in the metrowest area of Boston in June 2009 by short sale. After dating for many years, we married in January 2010 in Worcester, Massachusetts. We both love bungalows and the style of the 1930′s and 40′s. We have big plans for our house in the years to come!
I work at a university in Cambridge and spend large amounts of time commuting by train. I enjoy collecting depression glass (mostly amber madrid), reading how to diy on the web, and working on the ranchalow. My skill set now includes removing wall paper, painting (everything and anything), and refinishing wood floors.
Matt works as a stack tester – that’s right, he climbs smoke stacks to test emissions. He enjoys fishing, grilling, water and snow skiing, organizing the basement, and working on the ranchalow. He recently learned how to tile and replace clapboards and has serious plumbing skills.

Hi there —
I just stumbled on your blog. My husband and I bought a 1940 Ranchalow in Portland, Oregon this year. I got a good laugh out of your project list: wallpaper removal, tiles, etc. I have total empathy.
Cheers and good luck with your house.
